Terms of use

The honest summary: the site is free and informational, and no decision about your career, your contract or your pay should rest on what you read here alone.

What this site is

A reference site about work and pay. We gather public statistics — occupational wages from the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey in the United States, the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings in the United Kingdom, the federal wage series behind Canada’s Job Bank, and national statistics and Eurostat for European countries — and show each figure with its source, its reference period and a link to the dataset it came from.

We are not an employer, not a recruitment agency, we publish no job vacancies, we sell no courses, and we have no relationship with any government body, union or examining board. Nobody pays to appear here.

What these numbers are, and what they are not

They are aggregate statistics: a description of a set of jobs that already exist, over a period the page states. A median wage is not what you will be paid, not a legal minimum, not a ceiling and not an offer. It is the middle value of a published distribution.

They are not career advice either. The site does not tell you which occupation to choose, does not estimate your future earnings and does not compare you with anyone. Anyone deciding on the basis of these figures also needs to look at their own region, their qualifications, the agreement covering their role and, on anything legal, a qualified professional.

About accuracy

Figures are copied from official datasets, with the calculation described on the page itself. Even so, the source dataset can contain an error, can be revised after our collection, and a small occupational sample can describe reality badly — which is why pages whose sample is too thin say so instead of publishing a fragile average.

Nothing here serves as an expert opinion, a wage calculation, evidence in a dispute or a legal document. Before using it, confirm through the official link on the page.

What you may do with it

Read it, print it, quote it and send the link to anyone. If you quote it, quote the official source and the reference period too — that is what gives the figure its weight, not us.

You may not copy the whole site or scrape the pages in bulk to build a lookalike. The official statistics are public and you can go and get them at the source; the selection, the written text, the organisation and the translations are ours.

Ads and outside links

The site is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by third parties and never depend on the subjects we choose: there is no "sponsored" occupation, no recommended training provider and no text traded for money.

Links to statistical agencies, government departments, official gazettes and Wikimedia lead off this site, and what happens there is not under our control.

Changes and governing law

These terms can change when the site changes. The version that applies is the one published on this page.
